Hello everyone, I would just like to add something. A whole lot of you are complaining that Eamped just 'ran away with your forums' or 'sold out' to another company. This is not true at all. I have contacted AYKsolutions myself to ask them about the severity of the damage to the HDD's and they were able to give me this response: -------------------- Martin, I am sorry to tell you that from our end there is nothing else we can do. We have tried several fixes and restorations but due to the severity of the damage, no data was recovered. For more details, please visit the following link: http://forums.ayksolutions.com/showthread.php?t=353 -- Sincerely, Artyom Khmelnitsky President AYKsolutions, LLC. https://myayk.ayksolutions.com -------------------- I suggest you cut Eamped some slack because IT IS NOT their faults at all. They are working their ABSOLUTE BEST to restore YOUR forums because of other problems and your flaming them because you can't be patient enough to wait. If you can't wait, create a new forum and move on, have a fresh start, hey, even try out the new phpBB 3.0 Gold if you want to! I'd happily supply a link for you to try it out, http://phpbbhosts.co.uk Cut some slack for Lefora too, if it wern't for them, not of this would be even here now, and you would be completely in the dark about this whole situation. Regards, Martin.

Honestly, it's not someone else's responsiblity to ensure a sufficent back-up is in place. The crash itself may not be eAmped's fault but not having an off-server back-up is. I truley hate to see this happen to those thousands of users that built eAmped to where it was.

So there is definately no chance of my Forum having survived?
I spend ages researching free forums before choosing eamped and the main factor was you mydolvista ( I never could spell your name)
I am heart broken, the amount of genealogical information that took hours and hours of research to pull together from online and old books all gone, I may have a lot of it on my pc but certainly not all the 100s of queries and replies, I'm not sure I'll start another foum if this can happen again and I do this service for free and can't afford to pay for a forum, is anything reliable on the internet.

Disheartened - try going to Google, MSN, Yahoo etc. and doing a cache query to see what pages you can recover. For example, on Google do a search for:

site:yourforum.eamped.com

And you'll be returned all the pages they have stored of yours. From that page, click the "cached" link for the pages you want to see. You can even go directly to the pages you were missing if you know what the url was, for example:

cache:yourforum.eamped.com/topic46.html

Maybe you can copy-paste that information and save it someplace(might want to hurry). If it's OK with eAmped I'll be happy to extend an invitation to ProphpBB.com

i also contacted ayk solutions and got this response:

There was a 10 second power outage at the DC where the EAMPED server was located which caused, unfortunately, damage to the database and backup hard drives on this server. So, yes, that data is lost. We do not provide offsite backups, that is the responsibility of the end client.

Please direct all of your inquiries towards the owner of the eamped server for further details.

Sincerely,

Artyom Khmelnitsky
President

all i can say to eamped is "where is your backup?" unbeleivable, what a waste of everyones time. its no wonder they couldnt offer backups as they didnt even do there own!!!!!!!!!!

the above statement also explains why no response from eamped early on. he/they was probably locked in a toilet cubicle somewhere wishing he had made a decent backup.

I had all of my forums backed up on my computer, atleast the important things. If you were using the forums to save research that you personally did, I think you should have backed your stuff up before getting screwed. If your users were posting info to help it along, then yes, you're in trouble.
